House before/after

Updated: Jul 24, 2019

Bedroom closet doors had to come off.

Then came the shelves.

Then came the snow!

We had one successful fire...

And the fireplace had to go. Shout out to the window tinting film!

Pantry doors removed and disposed of for curtains!

Also, welcoming our new couch, floating entertainment center, and soon-to-be bamboo flooring! Yes, I'll deal with the wires!

Remaining projects: flooring, bathroom fan replacement, kitchen wallpaper removal, blinds replacement, wire routing...

July Update:

I gave up on replacing the whole bathroom fan housing because it required attic access. A $32

Slat blinds replacement in the bedroom. $32 on Offerup to have 4 (wrongly-ordered by the previous person) custom blinds shipped to me. Goodbye slats! Gaps are wonky, but the blackout curtains ($22 total on Amazon) make everything look more even.

Pantry doors and wooden shelves out. Wire shelves in. They don't feel as stable as I'd like, but 3 months later, and no signs of a bad load capacity.

Cork flooring: the creme de la creme. Most of the clay tiles saved after chipping the grout lightly. Old carpet removal, with pads. Spiked wood strips were lots of crowbar work.

3mm underlayment was $20 per 100sq ft. new, just over 200 sq ft. for the living room. Floor board cutter was $110 used, with a $24 hammer and floor board wedge kit. Amazon. I mis-measured the living room and ran out of underlayment. A new roll will arrive mid-week, so that strip of cement you see will be there until we get time to finish! Also, lowered the floating 80-lb cabinet so that I could put the electronics under the TV. Will do more work to organize cables.

Surprise project: Fridge stopped cooling. Kimchi smell went wild! $32 fan motor replacement in freezer. After a few more days of 45-degree fridge, I figured out it was the ventilation between the freezer and the fridge, so opened new holes. Kimchi and beer are cold again!

Future projects: Wall/floor trim - right now there are jagged ends to that beautiful flooring! Also, using tiles for the entryway. Kitchen wallpaper removal.
